S2RC is excited to announce its pivotal role in the development of MerlinTPS, a cutting-edge positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) solution. This innovation was achieved under an AFWERX Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract (#FA864924P0688).
MerlinTPS reimagines PNT by replacing or augmenting traditional GPS systems with terrestrial signals of opportunity. By leveraging existing broadcast infrastructure, the system utilizes advanced trilateration algorithms and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to deliver reliable navigation and timing, even in environments where GPS signals are unavailable or disrupted. Unlike expensive GNSS systems that require dedicated satellite infrastructure, MerlinTPS operates effectively both indoors and outdoors, offering a cost-efficient alternative.
S2RC provided key support through Human Systems Engineering and Program Management, contributing to the development of ATAK Plugin User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) prototypes. These efforts focused on improving user interaction and functionality, ensuring the system meets the needs of both defense and commercial users.
The prototypes have undergone extensive testing, confirming that MerlinTPS is ready for near-term deployment. As a scalable and affordable solution, it marks a significant advancement in Alternate Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) technology.
